How to Say "Day One Friend" in Korean: "불알친구" vs "찐친" (Korean Slang Guide)
There are a couple of ways to say "Best friend" in Korean.
But here is a slang concept just like "Day One Friend"
Among native Koreans, we often say "불알친구" (Bural-chingu).
불알 (Bural) literally means testicle...^^😂
It comes from the idea of childhood friends who grew up together from when they were small kids running around naked. So it means a childhood best friend you’ve known for as long as you can remember. But childhood doesn't always mean when you were like kids...
However!
Things to keep in mind:
Mainly used among guys: It is normally used by men, but very close female friends can sometimes use it casually too.
Casual only: Do NOT use this in formal or official settings (It can be vulgar/inappropriate in polite company)
Other Ways to Say "Best Friend" or "Close Friend" in Korean
베프 (Be-peu): Short for "Best Friend" (베스트 프렌드). Very common and safe for all ages/genders
찐친 (Jjin-chin): Slang for "Real/True Friend". Perfect for calling someone your genuine best friend without any vulgar nuance.
절친 (Jeol-chin): Short for 절친한 친구 (Very close friend). A standard, polite way to say best friend.
